I believe Windows 7 Professional has a built in utility as well.

Why would you need any third-party software for zipping your files?
Under
Windows XP, open the Windows Explorer, Mark your files, Hit Alt-F. In
the
File menu, scroll down to SendTo, press Right-arrow, and choose
Compressed
Zipped File. Your newly zipped archive, will be the last one on the
list, so
when done, simply hit the End key, and you should be on the zip-archive.

If you have files from several places, that you want to include in the
same
zip archive, simply copy them to an empty folder on your system, and
follow
steps as above.

Fast enough, Easy as nothing, and here is no need for any third-party
software. BTW, for Unzipping your archive, simply point your cursor at
the
filename in Explorer, and Hit Enter. It will open, just like a
subfolder.
Press Ctrl-A to mark all the files in the archive. Hit Ctrl-C to copy
the
marked files. Move to the place on your system where you want to place
the
unzipped files, and hit Ctrl-V, to paste the files. Job Is Done!

Only in case you are working with non-supported filetypes, like RAR, you

would need a third-party software. In general, if you want to pack your
files though, I do not encourage the use of things like RAR. This due
to a
rather fuzzy packing method, that is extremely vulnerable to data
corruption. Even if your RAR file does pack with no errors, uploading
and
downloading it to the target computer, can cause enough data corruption,

that the whole archive is useless. the standard ZIP file archive, is
sufficient enough for all everyday packing tasks, is quite reliable, and

does transfer safe. There really is a reason, why ZIP by far is the most

commonly used packing method.

Hello Listers, can anyone tell me of a speech friendly utility or

that I can use to zip files and folders and then transfer them from a
Win xp
machine to a Win 7 computer. The win xp computer, where I will be doing
the
zipping, is running we 72. The win 7 machine is running we 75. I
appreciate
any help.
