In addition to Tom and Mike's helpful answer, I just want to mention that if you reinstall any factory set files (such as Word's), and you have program-specific apps installed (such as WordNav or MS Word), then you will also need to reinstall these apps afterwards, as their association with Word is lost when you reinstall the set files, and so will not run until you do so.
