Alan,
You are correct that the "automatically read" setting will not read any
of the webpage when it is loaded. If you also do not want to hear
anything regarding page elements, the uncheck the respective boxes under
the new information section of Browse Mode verbosity.

headers and links which is all I wanted. Also nothing about the page is
read and we is silent.
