Bud,

1.  Open Window-Eyes with Control-Backslash.
2.  Press Alt-E to focus the settings tree.
3.  Press k for keyboard followed by the right arrow to expand it.
4.  Down arrow to voice.
5. Tab to the Voice combo box. Adjust the keyboard echo to your preference. In this case, you don't want it to be set to "on with characters and words." You likely just want it set to "on with characters."
6.  If you are satisfied with the change, press Control-S to save it.
