Erik is pretty much right.

The older satellite displays will not work under win 7 64 bit. The only way you can get them to work is to purchase a usb converter from Optelec which makes the satellite display "look" like a bc 640 to the system. These converters cost over $500 and will only work with alva displays with firmware later than 2005.

We found this out the hard way. It's really too bad, but that's how it is.

So, unless you can or want to go this route, I'm sorry to say you're stuck with a display you can't use.

You need to contact Optelec or a reputable dealer to get more information on the converter I mentioned.

Window-eyes does support this converter though if you do decide to try it.

Naw, it's not going to work. Satellite is just too old at this point. It
took them years to get the support for bc640. There's just no hope for
the Satellite.

It should work on your mac but that's about it. Even if window-eyes
supported Braille TY for windows you would still need that USB driver
which is just not happening. If I remember right the 3.0 driver package
was from either 2004 or 2005. 6 or 7 years is forever int computer years.

HI all. This isn't strictly a we question but I want to use we with my
alva sattelite 544 braille display which worked wonderfully on my
netbook. however, on new desktop with 64 bit windows 7, there appears
to be no driver for this display. I have a really hard time giving up
a perfectly good braille display simply because there is no driver. I
have spent a couple of hours searching on the internet and have found
support in linux with 64 bits and all sorts of other things but
nothing about windows 64 bit.

the latest driver i could find was version 3.0 which only has a 32 bit
driver and won't install in 64 bit no matter how much I tweek things
to try and make it go.

does anyone know if such a thing exists?

Alva is gone and optelec has replaced it but all there info seems to
be about the bc640/680

any help would be much appreciated.

thanks.
Brian.
