Okay, I'm trying to find out as much as I can about a problem I'm
having with WE running on Windows 7. Actually as I'm writing this
it's driving me crazy in Eudora, as it occasionally shuts up, then
comes back. Anyway, occasionally when my sighted husband comes to
look at my screen for some reason, he'll comment that it's dim or
that it's completely black. From tech support I was told that this is
because Windows 7 has a problem with mirror drivers. It's a weird
fix, one that only a blind person could do. Go into the calibrate
display color dialog, hit next, then escape out and everything's
fine. I haven't yet found someone using another screen reader who is
having this issue, but the majority of people I'm finding don't have
the occasional sighted person looking in.
Anyway, I looked at my XP laptop and there is no Window-eyes display
driver loaded. My laptop is running WE 7.2. Is this display driver
something new for Windows 7 systems? Or did WE store the display
driver somewhere else in XP? My video card is the ATI Radeon 4050. I
think I have that number right.
I sure don't understand what's really going on deep inside here, but
can't imagine what would happen to someone using zoom text or
something. But it gets really entertaining when our sighted spouses
want to borrow our computers briefly and only have speech. Anyone
else having this experience?
