Melissa and others:

Before I make my comments, I should explain that I have some peripheral
vision. While I cannot read text, I can often identify the general format
of the screen.

I recently upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows XP and just tried Family Tree
Maker 2008. it appears to be quite compatible. One area that was not
accessible with prior versions of WE and Windows is now accessible. It
might be necessary to have a sighted person help you learn the basic layout.

Later versions of FTM (beginning with 2009) have become more and more
graphical with no labels. I found them to be inaccessible. I suppose one
could label the graphics but this might be an insurmountable task.

Maybe you could find one of the earlier version on eBay or from a friend.
You would not have all the "bells and whistles" on the newer versions, but
the earlier versions are compatible with ancestry.com.

Wish I could be of more help. Maybe someday the developers of genealogy
software will find a way to make their products more accessible. After all,
this information is basically a database.

Happy Halloween!
