Pat,
this is the most easy you could ever ask.
1. Open your Windows Explorer, to any folder on your system.
2. press Tab-key once, and you are at the address bar. It usually will show
the full folder name.
3. Now type in the FTP address, that you want to browse.
4. Hit ENTER, and the ftp site will open.
5. Now hit Tab, once again, and you are back to the explorer window, that
you know from any of your folders locally. Only, now it will show you the
contents of the FTP server.
6. Do as you are used to, scrolling up and down the list of files and
folders. If you hit a folder, and want to browse its contents, simply hit
ENTER, to open it, and continue your browsing.
Now, if you want to copy any of the contents, and save it on your local
computer, do as follows:
7. Open a second instance of Windows Explorer. This can for instance be
done, by going to your desktop and chsing My Computer.
8. Browse your computer, till you hit the place where you want the stuff
saved.
9. Alt-Tab back to the open FTP window, and find your wanted information.
10. Once positioned wit your cursor at the wanted file, or folder, hit
CTRL-C, to copy it.
11. lt-Tab back to your local window, and press CTRL-V, to paste the
material.
Be aware, that in case this is a bigger amount of information, the pasting
could take a bit of time. You are on a network, and even if it is a
highspeed connection, it always will be far more slow, than doing a copy and
paste internally on your local computer. Furthermore, there could be high
trafic on the FTP server, which might slow down - not only your copying
process, but even the whole browsing process, somehow.
Also, in step 4, you might experience a note from your firewall, in case you
have such a thing installed. Mine, for one, will popup, and ask me if I will
allow the computer to connect to a new FTP address. All depending on which
firewall, and exact settings. Just mention it here, so that you might be
prepared.
FTP browsing through Windows Explorer, is far more easy than using any other
software. And, in most cases you will be able to do it. There might be
certain setup of a given FTP server, that will block you from doing so, but
in the general, on open servers, you should have no problem.
Hope this is of any help.

however not Windows Explorer.
Please explain how to do this.
Thanks.

Hello Pat,
You can use Windows Explorer to open a FTP site and it works just as
if you opened a folder on your computer.
