Hi Sandra,

There's a mailing list with a name like "blind technology" which you could
google for, and subscribe to. They cover topics like this.

A lot of digital phones do connect to your pc for one reason or another (you
may not know about the connection; you may see the ethernet cable going from
your pc to the phone, and then one from the phone to the wall). In such
cases, many phone system manufacturers offer special software packages which
speak the status of the various items of the phone. You could ask your tech
support people if such software is available for your phone. (there's even
an app in app central (named AccessAPhone) for a commercial package which
does this for many brands of phone systems).

hth,

Chip

Subject: Sorry off topic question for other blind folks

I'm really sorry for the off topic question but not sure where to go to
find this information out. I need to find out something that might help me
in my job here. Years ago, I use the light probe on phone systems here
and other jobs. We have had this system for several years and I don't use
a probe now because this phone is digital and has arrows or something that
still flashes but it's not a light that an old probe will work on. There is
an old problem that we are trying to resolve. Obviously we are not
getting a new phone for me. So, is there any new gaget that might work on
this kind of system? Johnye Pryor, who is on this list knows what phone
system I'm talking about. She use to work here. She was here when we got
it. AT that time we didn't know of anything. That was in June of 2000.
Basically I can't tell if my phone is ready, or not ready for me to take
phone calls, unless I just go ahead and log myself back into the system,
even when I'm I'm already in, or if I dial numbers and see if my phone
rings. Just this week we figured out that if I dial numbers to see if my
phone will ring so I can take calls, and then immediately hang up, it will
show on our log sheets as abandond calls. And that's not good. Hope this
make since. Any ideas that don't cost much? Again, I really really
sorry for the off topic issue. Maybe someone can give an idea where to go
for this. Thanks a bunch.
