Russ,
I'm happy to report that that day is here! The latest version of Adobe
Digital Editions Preview and the latest version of Window-Eyes now work
together. Before, Window-Eyes could read the controls in the program, but
not the content of the books. Now it can read the content of the books as
well. Hopefully, the combination will be stable, but crashes with other
screen readers have happened. I guess we should report any stability
problems to both Adobe and GW Micro.
I would say these preview versions of Digital Editions are somewhat like
betas. They also lack some of the features of the full version such as the
ability to transfer books to portable devices.

Well, perhaps some day WE will support it.

Russ,
I have been using Adobe Digital Editions 1.8 Preview for a while with JFW.
This may be an upgrade to the version that I have. I have used it to read
protected ePub books from Overdrive and one book in PDF format. Adobe
says
that you can also use the program to read protected books from commercial
book sellers. Apparently, Window-Eyes doesn't have support for it yet.

Does anyone know anything about this?
A new version of Adobe Digital Editions is available. Users relying on
VoiceOver, JAWS, or NVDA, and keyboard-only or high-contrast users can
make use of this application to read electronic books, including books
from booksellers such as Barnes and Noble and Waterstones, and books
loaned via public libraries which use OverDrive for electronic book
delivery.
