Other than the instant search feature, I also don't understand the need for a separate home page. For one thing, I find the tailored ads to sometimes be helpful, but it is easy to get to the results by using Window-Eyes' ability to skip to headings. When I just tried it now, I found that pressing "H" three times got me to the search results. Also, the first result seems usually to be the first third level heading on the page, so pressing 3H usually gets one right to it. Still, maybe I'm missing something.
