You might also try the following:
While on the desktop, if there is an item selected, simply hit CTRL-SPACE
to unselect. Now use the Context key to bring up a list of options. I believe
this is the same as right-clicking on the desktop.

Is there a hot key to just right click some blank space on the DeskTop to
