Good Evening:

I'm able to create simple message rules for Thunderbird 10 using JAWS, but I don't seem to know enough Window-Eyes 7.5.3 yet to complete the task on my 64 bit Windows 7 Home Premium machine.

"This description does not discuss everything related to working with
message rules. It does give enough information to allow you to create
message rules.
Open the message rule dialog by opening the tools menu and finding and
pressing enter on message filters.
Tab to the new rule button and press the space bar.
A new dialog opens. You are in a field where you type the name you want
to give the rule. Tab once to the apply filter when field. It's a combo
box. If you don't
like the current selection, up or down arrow to see the other choices. Stop
on the choice you want.
Tab once to the 3 radio buttons determining how the rule will be applied.
Again, if you don't like the current choice, up or down arrow to see the
other choices. Stop on the one you want.
In this dialog, there are times when you will tab to something that doesn't
do anything. After you get to the radio buttons field you are currently in,
tabbing once will take you to such a field.
Once there, tab again.
You are in a combo box and the item selected is subject.
If you don't want to assign a condition to the subject, up or down arrow and
find a field you want to work with.
But don't up arrow here as your first action unless you want to work with
the customize headers dialog. If you up arrow to that item, a new dialog
opens and you will have to tab to the cancel button and activate it with the
space. bar. You will then have to tab to the cancel button again and
activate it again. After doing this twice, as described, you will again be
back in the combo box. so you will usually want to down arrow to start
moving through the choices. In the current example, we shall place
something in both the subject line and the from line options.
As I said, when you move to the combo box, subject is already selected.
Tab once and you will get to another combo box. The item already selected
is contains. You can up or down arrow to see lots of other choices, such as
doesn't contain.
For now, leave the choice as it is. You are going to work with the
contains choice.
Tab once and you will be in an edit field.
Let's say you are getting spam about life ensurance with the words life
ensurance as part of what is in the subject line.
type the words life insurance.
The rule will now look for messages containing those words.
If you don't want to add anything else for the message rule to look for,
continue tabbing. But in this case, we also want to tell it to look for
something in the from line. So in this case, just tab once to a button
that says new rule. this is an incorrect label for the button. You may
want to write to the developers of the program to complain. You are not
creating a new rule. You are adding a new condition. The button should
say new condition, or something else which is accurate. At any rate,
press the space bar on the button which is ridiculously labeled as "new
rule."
Tab twice.
the first time you tab, you will see a button which again, is improperly
labeled. It says remove rule. You are not removing a rule. If you press
it, you will be removing the new additional condition you are creating and
only the first one will remain.
Tabbing again takes you to the exact same kind of combo box you worked
with earlier. You are on the word subject.
Down arrow until you get to the word from.
Tab once and you will hear the word contains.
Tab again and you will be in an edit field. For this example, type John
Smith
Tab again and you will see a button that again says add a new rule.
If you want to add a third condition, you would press this button with the
space bar. But in this example, you don't.
So continue to tab until you get to a combo box which says move message
to.If you want to change what will be done with the message, up or down
arrow until you find the choice you want.
If you want to leave the choice as it is, tab once more and you will see
lots of choices for where the message should be moved.
Again, this is another combo box. Up or down arrow through the choices of
where the message may be moved and stop on the one you wish.
In this example, let's say you want the message moved to the trash folder
because all messages from John Smith with the words life ensurance as part
of the subject line are spam. If you have more than one account, make sure
you have stopped on the correct trash folder. The combo box shows all
folders from all accounts.
Then tab until you get to the ok button and press the space bar. You have
now created a message rule. I don't know what the button labeled plus does
between where you were and the ok button. Your friend may wish to
experiment with that button.
there is a little more information that might be added to this description
such as explaining how to delete a rule or alter what is in an existing
rule. this added information may or may not be necessary to include in
the description, based on the previous knowledge and experience of the
user. I shall not in clude it in this message."

For now, I just want to move messages from my in-box to folders I created for mail from different lists I'm on to go into. I'm okay with WE 7.5.3 until the combo box that lists the list of folders to move the mail to. I think I need to move the cursor to another view, but I don't know which view or how to get to it. Could some kind person provide instructions to a WE and Thunderbird newbie

Thank you,

Margaret?
