What? How on earth can you add third-party programs to the ribbon? I've never seen that.

If you can I always tell people to go with the latest version of Microsoft office no matter the operating system. I always minimize the ribbon to reduce clutter and I always recommend that older office users get and install the classic menu for office program. This way you have the advantages of the ribbon and trust me once you get used to it there are advantages like being able to add 3rd programs to it and the ability to add features to the quick access tool bar. Adding things to this tool bar provides you faster access to things from the ribbon and also adds keyboard short cuts to options that might not have a keyboard short cut. For example in outlook there is no keyboard short cut to move messages to a folder. I find my self moving messages to my saved mail folder a lot so added this to the tool bar and I press a key in my case alt+5 and it opens the move to folder option. So get office 2010 if you can learn the power of the ribbon get classic menu for office so you can find things quick and easily while learning where the new things are. Another good add on for the ribbon is search for command. This gives you a search box in the ribbon where you can type the name or part of the name of the command and find it quickly and easily.
