Marilyn,
if you fully close down the software - that is, you don't leave it in the SysTray - you will logically be OFFLINE, and hence this is the status you will appear with to other users.

Far as I know, there is no way to bakc up your contatct list. Neither any need to do so. Your contact list, will be tied up with the actual account, in the Skype system. That is, it is remotely stored. Bhe benefit hereof, is that you can log in, from any computer, long as you know your username and password; and all your contacts would be readily listed for you. Otherwise, how would you ever be able to use your skype account, from public computers like in the library? So, there is no place on your local system, where these contact infos are saved. Whether the Skype system has any feature, offering for you to copy the contact list off their system, I really doubt. Specially so, since such a feature could ppose a threat to your privacy, in case others learned how to copy your contact list.

Well, the above info, is taking from my experience with other messenging softwares. If I am wrong, when comes to the Skype clients, please would anyone feel free to educate me and the rest of the list.

Hope this put you on ease. Yet, another benefit of a remotely saved contact list, is that if you decide to re-install your system, or get a new computer, you don't have to re-enter your whole list of contacts. Simply log into your account, and the list is all there, ready for you to use.

Subject: GWConnect question and comment

When I close the GWConnect program, i.e. Alt-F4, does it show me off line to others; or am I still considered on line if I did not change my status within the program?

Is there a file or folder that contains my contact list? I want to be able to back it up to a disk and/or other computer. If not a file or folder that I can just copy, how about copying the entire GWConnect folder? Will that give me the contacts if I had to re-install and then copied my backed up folder over it?

When I installed GWC 1.03 just the other day, I had a hard time finding the keystrokes to use to answer a call. It was in the documentation that I finally read far enough into, but it ought to be a menu option to answer a call just like the menu that has hang up, mute, etc. I received a call, and no dialog came up once I was authorized with that person. I had no idea how to answer his call. This information needs to be much more prominent and accessible without a long and detailed search.

The other thing I couldn't figure out, even after reading the manual, was how to add someone to my contact list. After another long session, I finally decided that I had to do a search for them and then add them using the search dialog box. There is apparently no way to simply type in the contact info and add them to my cntact list. If this is really how it's done, then it ought to be spelled out as such in the manual.

Despite these troubles, I am making use of the GWConnect program and having some fun with it.

Thanks GW for the program and anyone for any further help...
Marilyn
