Greetings to The List and GwMicro staff, I recently downloaded GwConnect and love it. And that's part of the problem. GwConnect is far simpler to use than is the regular Skype client. I have found that the regular Skype client can be a complicated mess through which to navigate.
I am using an old headset with a built-in simple microphone. I found that GwConnect performed extremely well when I placed and received a number of Skype calls. However, I have found that the headset/microphone functions rather poorly for my taste. Hence, I decided to purchase a separate USB yeti microphone from Blue Microphone. When I installed the yeti by way of the computer USB port, I made a test call using Skype's Echo Sound Test service and found that my spoken test call using the yeti failed miserably. I heard neither the Echo Sound Test introduction to the test as spoken by the female voice, nor my own voice as spoken as part of the test call. I then tried to place a Skype call and found that, as expected, I could not place the call, inasmuch as there was no sound produced after having pressed ctrl+L. I might additionally add here that I also used a USB headset/microphone unit and found that the results for this unit were absolutely similar to the results described above with regard to my yeti microphone. I could hear sound through the headphones, but when I tried to place a Skype call or use the Echo Sound Test service, I also met with total failure I am thus led to ask the following questions: (1) Can GwConnect be used with a certified Skype-competent USB microphone? (2) If the answer to the previous question is in the affirmative, then is it necessary to alter one or more settings in my Windows XP configuration? (3) If the answer to question (1) is in the negative, must I then resort to using a version of the original Skype client? I am using Windows XP Service Pack 3 with all the necessary updates. If anyone has any possible answers to this enigmatic difficulty, I would very much appreciate any sort of response that might assist me in solving this mysterious problem. Thank you very much.
