The laptop layout is designed for use on keyboards with no numeric keypad. Thus, it uses combinations of the Capslock with other keys to perform functions that are normally handled on the numpad.

Regards,
Steve

Is there any advantage to using the laptop keyboard layout over the regular
layout?

Using a Dell Laptop.
