Hello: Most sound cards also have a linine in jack and that is what you should use if you have that jack.

I plug a cable from the speaker or headphone jack of the casset recorder to the microphone jack of the computer. Then I set up Audacity to start recording from the microphone, put Audacity into Record mode and start playing the tape. When it is finished, I save the recording as n MP3 file. After it is saved, I go back into Audacity to edit it as best I can. (note, the editing is somewhat limited but it is good enough for my perposes.) I hope this helps.
