Hi Sue. The command line just identifies to Window-Eyes that it is a 20 cell Pac Mate Braille display, and this is not really anything to be unduly concerned about. If the installation happened correctly, (and it sounds like it did), it should default to USB, and Window-Eyes knows that these displays do not have Bluetooth connectivity.
I wonder if you sometimes experience some inconsistency with the display powering up etc because on many of these units, the usb connection at the display end does not always connect firmly. I have this problem with my 40 cell display. I also believe that the software interface between PacMate and Focus displays (both from Freedom Scientific) and Window-Eyes is buggy, but the fault is not GWs. Apparently there are new standards intended to ensure that Braille displays, regardless of manufacture, will interface correctly with different screen readers. If this is still the current situation, some screen readers will support whatever device they are connected with, and others won't. The Pac Mate displays were designed for JFW, and probably work well with this screen reader. It was alleged some years ago that Freedom Scientific was choosing not to support the emerging standards, but I willingly concede that my knowledge of this topic is not up-to-date. The Pac Mate displays have lots of potential, because with Window-eyes, you can configure the navrow buttons and whizz wheels. Basically: if it works most of the time - continue to enjoy your display. I really love this braille display. For some reason whenever window eyes starts sometimes it will come up and sometimes it will not and every time I have to go in to the devices settings in window eyes and hit the activate and it says system initialized. As I was looking in the area where it has the usb ports and other stuff it says something like command line start up /bpm20. What is that? Another thing I was wondering is there a way to turn on and off the display since there is only USB connections to deal with, I did install the drivers from the cd and thats why I would like to know what all of this stuff is. Another reason why I like the display there is no blue tooth or extra batteries. If anyone could explain this to me that would be great. Thank you. ____________________________________________________________ 53 Year Old Mom Looks 33 The Stunning Results of Her Wrinkle Trick Has Botox Doctors Worried http://thirdpartyoffers.juno.com/TGL3131/4fbbc81b4463215b5fd0st01vuc If you reply to this message it will be delivered to the original sender only.
