First of all, keep in mind your new voices are SAPI voices. So in the list of voices in the WE control panel, scroll down to SAPI, then tab once, and you should be in the list of available SAPI voices. Hopefully, your new voices will show up here.

Secondly, sometimes a SAPI voice only can be activated in one software at a time. It depends a bit on the exact construction of the voice and interface. I have seen this with a few voices. In such a case, to use the voice in WE, you will have to deactivate - or disable - the voice in TextAloud. Open the TextAloud screen, and hit Alt-O, for options. Then the letter V, for voice options. In the screen that opens, you have to first find your manufacturer - like AT&T, NeoSpeech, Scansoft and so forth. Focused on your manufacturer, hit Right arrow to expand. Then scroll down to the voice in question. Tab over to the Disable button and hit Space bar. Then tab to OK, and hit Enter.

Close TExtAloud altogether, and if nessary, try restarting WE. Then try to see if your new voice will be listed in the synthesizer list, under SAPI voices. If you have further questions as to the full set of steps on how to disable the voice in TextAloud, contact me off-list. I then can open TA here, and walk you through all details.

Subject: trying to use textaloud

Hi Gang,

I just installed textaloud from a cd and also another disc with a couple of at&t voices. I hate to be so ignorant, but what do I do now? I thought the new voices would show up in the list of synthesizers with the other but it's not there. What am I missing? Windoweyes 7.4.1 and windows 7 64 bit.
Thanks.
