Hey, Tim. I do believe it did the trick. In my case, the mystery window would pop up every time I launched Firefox.
The only thing missing from your instructions is that when the user opens the notepad open dialog, he/ she needs to switch the file types combo box from text documents to all files. I guess it figures that the accessibility culprit has to be Flash. The install/ update dialog doesn't work right either. Thannks a ton. Here's how to disable it on 32-bit Windows 7. On 64-bit, you'll need to use a different path, system64 maybe? I imagine you can take similar steps in Vista. 1. Run Notepad as an administrator. To do this, hit the Windows key, start typing "notepad" until you hear "notepad" read back to you. Hit the context key and select Run as Administrator. 2. In Notepad, open the file called c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash\mms.cfg (replace c with the proper drive letter if different.) 3. Add the line: ProtectedMode = 0 at the bottom of the file. 4. Save the file and exit Notepad 5. Restart Firefox. This should put things back the way they were in previous versions of Flash. The other benefit is that Flash content will now play at the volume at which you have Firefox set. That is, it won't blare at full volume every time you play a different piece of Flash content.
