Hello GW-Micro,
Just a few wishes for the new WE when you get it out, fixes Etc.
For all I know you've fixed some of these on your own. I sincerely hope
people don't go crazy with this and start a flame list over me sending
this out, this is just meant to be exactly what it is, some wishes from
a single user for the new vversion. This isn't a complaint list either,
I do enjoy using WE, use it as my primary screen reader, promote it to
people I talk to and of course, keep paying on my LTO. These wishes
aren't in an order of priority either, more like an order of whatever
comes out of my muttled mind.
1. Improved responsiveness especially with hanging applications. I
realize that other applications hanging is beyond your control, however
is it possible to improve the way WE handles this so that it doesn't
hang along with them? Often I have to use NVDA to rescue myself from
something hanging WE, terminate WE, or the offending application
(internet explorer for example) then reload. Perhaps because it is a
simpler program, but I find NVDA doesn't get hung up by other things not
responding. I have no idea how one as a programmer gets around this
problem, but if you guys could it sure would be nice.
2. Less crash reports! I certainly don't mind sending you guys crash
reports and I hope that they're useful and not just wasting your time,
but I hope that the root causes of them can be identified and fixed.
Often I see crashes in WE with going in to Internet Explorer (both 9 and
8 when I used it). I also sometimes see crashes in Windows Explorer, or
other random places. I definitely think those sorts of issues need to
be addressed, even though I realize this is probably easier said than done.
3. Support for a mouse pointer within Internet Explorer 9! It would be
exceptionally useful to be able to use a mouse pointer inside Internet
Explorer 9 as sometimes there are web page items that just must be
clicked with a mouse. I don't know how they pulled it off with the
competition but if you guys can do it that would be awesome!
4. Dynamic announcements of content for Windows 8 icons. The new icons
as you know on the new Windows 8 start screen have dynamic content, such
as showing the weather to you when you move over the weather app icon,
or the latest news items when you select the news icon without having to
open the item in question. Other icons such as the messenger app icon
show your latest received messages as you highlight it Etc. I know that
Narator does this and according to sources the competition is doing this
as well. Does WE do this in your latest builds? If not it might b
something to look at.
5. Better support for Thunderbird. You've largely fixed the issues
with the browse mode randomly turning itself on while typing a message,
however it still does happen. Ironically enough it doesn't seem to
happen as much on my laptop as it does on my desktop. In addition, it
would be nice if WE could identify miss-spelled items in a message body
as you arrow through it, or identify font type and other attributes,
much like it can in Word.
6. The ability to identify font, style and colours on a web page. I
know that web development is something you guys are working on, as
roomoured also Java support, but along with that I hope that WE will be
able to identify the font under the cursor instead of just "unicode 556"
or whatever, instead it would be nice to hear "times new roman, 16
point, red on blue". This is especially useful for web developers.
(just a note, the browse mode turning on in Thunderbird thing just
happened as I was finishing that last sentence. The only way around it
is to alt-tab away, then back, or just forget typing in Thunderbird
altogether and use Notepad, then paste in after. It seems sort of
dependent on WE, Thunderbird and how much I want to deal with at the
time for writing an E-mail.)
7. Fix that pesky bug of icons not showing on the desktop or start menu
sometimes. This most often happens for me after WE crashes and is
reloaded, then it needs to be properly shut down and then reloaded again.
8. Better terminal support. I find that sometimes WE doesn't read
things automatically in a command line, or a session in Tera Term or
Putty as well as say NVDA does, or that is it's more likely that I'll
have to use the WE cursor/mouse pointer to review the screen manually.
Ok, I think that's everything, at least that I can think of at
the moment. I also just wanted to say again that I really appreciate
all the support you provide your customers and that dealing with you
guys is always a positive experience. I'm definitely looking forward to
the new WE8 and hope that some of the items on this list have found
their way in to the new version, besides the improvements to web
browsing of course.
Thanks again for everything,
Cory
