Chris,
You didn't give any details what version of Thunderbird, Firefox or IE
you are using or the operating system.
I am using Windows 7 64-bit and here is what I get.
1. Thunderbird 16.0.1. When I create a new message if I hit shift tab 4
times I'll hear "From blah combo box". I can arrow through the options
in the combo box and it reads them. TB doesn't allow you to arrow left
and right through the text.
2. Firefox 16.0.1. When I go to www.freshnews.org and tab around I get
the same information as I do with IE9. meaning I hear the group names,
like "slashdot" and as I continue to tab all the articles under that
group...than I'll tab to the next group "cnet" and again tab through all
the articles under it. IE9 is doing the same thing.
3. Word 2007. I don't have quick access to 2007 but I tried this in
2010. If I type quickly and hit backspace sometimes I won't hear
it...but if I wait just a fraction and hit backspace I hear it. Is this
what you are saying or are you saying it doesn't matter how fast or
slow, it just won't speak?

1. Thunderbird is a bit better. At least I can read what I type now.
I still can't read the from: field when i go to send a message and
need to change email accounts. All it says is my name, not the email
account name.
2. firefox: go over to www.freshnews.org and try tabbing around, then
try the same thing in internet explorer. You get very little with
firefox and you get news headlines with ie.
3. word: The backspace still doesn't speak all the time in word 2007.
It often misses the first press.
4. Solitaire works faster and more reliably.
