Hey Wally,

Set files are configuration files for Window-Eyes. They're like a built-in set of scripting tools you can use to configure Window-Eyes to do certain things and make changes automatically in order to work better with a particular program without having to delve into actual scripting. Of course even beginning to explain this is beyond the scope of a quick reply, but here's a quick example related to your original question. Instead of unloading Window-Eyes while playing a self-voicing game you could just associate the Silent.set set file with that program and it will do exactly what its name implies; silence Window-Eyes. But it actually does more than just turn the voice off. It turns off all of the core functions of Window-Eyes; the voice, cursor keys, and hot keys. This prevents any of the Window-Eyes functionality from interfering with the game. For example, if the game uses a hot key that is a Window-Eyes hot key Window-Eyes will not act on it because hot keys have been turned off. So it won't get in the way of your game. But if you open another program or Alt-Tab to another window the set file associated with that program will load and Window-Eyes will work as it always does with that program. And when you go back to your game it will go silent again. And when you close your game Window-Eyes will come back again as well because a new set file will be loaded. So it's like a virtual on/off switch without having to actually unload and reload Window-Eyes.

Hth,
Tom

thanks everyone for your prompt, and useful replies to my questions.
Just shows me window eyes people are the best!
I'll just unload WE when i'm playing games. I'm a computer novice, and
i'm keeping my hands off of set files, since i don't understand any of
that stuff yet. By the way, the curious cat wants to know, what the
heck are set files anyway?
Anyone want to try to answer me that one? How do they bennefit me as a
WE user. Thanks.
