Do you mean that your function keys are set up to perform functions that are 
related to your computer rather than their normal functions?  If so, there is 
usually an "FN" key that you can hold down like a shift key that will return 
these keys to their normal use.  Often, this key is just to the right of the 
left 
CONTROL key.

There is often a setting in the setup screens that can undo this feature, but 
one generally needs sighted help to do this as screen readers do not usually 
work in those screens.  You will need to check your user guide to learn if this 
is possible on your computer.
