Hi, All. Thanks to those of you who gave me info re Windows 7. Looks like
I'll be going to that OS soon. By the way, with Win8 out, how much does win7
cost, and what are its different flavors? Thanks.--Matthew Chao

Many of your 32-bit applications will work. Windows 7 has a Compatibility
section that may also assist you. Further, the Pro version also allows you to
run Windows in XP mode. I had to install XP mode to get one of my favorite old
programs to work. I would do a bit of research and ask some questions before
doing this and would certainly explore other options first.

Hi, Folks. Interesting thread here.

My question is: Can I run 32-bit applications on a 64-bit OS, and if so, is
there anything I need to do to make them work?

Also, I have a Dell Precision PWS380 that's about 6 years old and running XP
Pro with 8GB RAM. It has a 32-bit bus (I think). can it run Windows 7?

Thanks in advance.--Matthew Chao

Hello John

the only thing I can suggest is if you are running Windows 7 professional there
will be some more services available. Also text to speech programs are happier
when there is more RAM. without the 3 GB limit that XP had, I would suggest
going for at least 6 GB of RAM; 8 would be better.

If you get a video card this will help. Video cards have their own memory and
if you don't use the on board one, then the video is not sharing the RAM with
the rest of the applications. Personally getting a video card is not a high
priority, since I don't do any gaming that relies on high quality graphics or
run any programs that need to perform a lot of complex math calculations. And
as for the latter, the processor plays a bigger role any way.

I'm in the process of getting a new computer running Windows-7 Professional..
I'm going to be using the latest version of Windoweyes. Is there anything I
need to know in particular -- type of fideo or sound card, other advice, etc,
that will make things go easier?
I'm going to be running a 64-bit machine.
Thanks.
