yep, avast isn't that reliable. I'd go with ms security essentials. it's not 
the most accessible but it gets the job done and it's free and runs in the 
background. And it updates without telling you loudly that the virus database 
has been updated. that used to scare the hell outa me if I left the computer 
running at 2 in the morning.
