Mike I am sorry about my last posting. I posted it before I read your post on the start menu. I do not know why your start menu is not being spoken now. I installed win eyes 8 on a windows 8 computer and my start screen does in fact say start when I press the key. I hope someone who is more experienced then myself can get the answer you need. Merry Christmas Rick

Rick, yes, I am aware that there some keystrokes that Window-eyes uses to
accommodate working with the modern start screen and the tiles. I pointed
my main issue out because on my laptop running Window-eyes 8.0.0 under
Windows 7 that the startmenu speaks, of course. The start menu key when
pressed was spoken under Windows 8 during the beta cycle. Yes, again, I am
well aware that Windows 8 is a new and very different operating system from
previous versions. I guess my point is this. The start menu key was spoken
when pressed running Window-eyes betas 1 and 2 under Windows 8. Now it
isn't. Why not.

Mike when you boot into windows 8 the first screen that comes up is what
they call the start screen. It is populated with tiles and you can arrow
through them and choose one by pressing enter on one. There are no more drop
down menus but if you read the read me file you will get some tips on how to
navigate windows 8 with win eyes. Rick On 12/24/2012 8:48 AM, Bob, K8LR

Hi, all. I mentioned this issue in an earlier post, and I haven't
received a response as of yet. I thought I would explain the issue in
more detail, however.

I received my Window-eyes 8.0.0 cd this past Saturday. Since I was
running the previous beta 2 under Windows 8 and had to upgrade from
the cd, I waited for the cd to arrive like a lot of us, grin. Anyway,
I tried installing Window-eyes 8.0.0 from the cd and it wouldn't
install. It appears my dvd/rw drive has failed so I'm waiting for a
replacement under warranty thank goodness, grin. At the suggestion of
one of the list members, I copied the cd to a thumb drive and
installed Window-eyes from there. Some of the apps didn't install
properly so a restart of the computer was required.

Now, whenever I press the start menu key under Windows 8 after the
full install of Window-eyes 8.0.0, the start menu key no longer
speaks. I unplugged the keyboard and plugged it back in and still no go.

Sorry for the long message, but Gw Micro asks for details, grin. Thanks.
