I concur with Alan's positive assessment of Norton.  Yes, Norton may 
require more pc power to run so it probably isn't the best choice on a 
system having minimal ram, a slower processor, and similar things.
This isn't to say anything negative about other security packages.  I like 
Eset Smart Security and find MicroSoft Security Essentials great on Win 7 
pcs.
