I suggest not using your arrow keys to find things on the desktop. I'm not
using Windows 8 yet, but think this might help. Rename the shortcut by
pressing F2 on it. Put a unique character in front of its name; the first
character in ASCII sorting order is the exclamation point or Bang. Even if
this doesn't put Computer or My Computer in the upper left corner of the
desktop, you could then always access it by typing ! on the desktop and your
selection should go to the only icon which starts with that character. You
can use punctuations or numbers to prefix all sorts of desktop icon names.
But you can also stop using the Desktop so much and type stuff on the Start
button instead, using the Autocomplete feature and arrow keys.

this is not a w e bug. the indexing is being done by windows. w e is only
reporting what windows sees.
i don't know if there is a way to make windows re-index the icons.
like the recycle bin. when i first installed windows 7 this was number one
and the only icon on the desktop. now i have 29 icons but the recycle bin is
number four now.
i can move the icons any place on the desktop and the index number stays the
same.
but i am looking on the net to see if there is a way to re indext the icons.

hi Michael,
It seems it is a WE8 bug.
I just cut and pasted my last desktop icon from last to first, and we8
still announces it as being 72 instead of one.
Maybe gw might know how to correct this glitch.

Hi. I am running Window-eyes 8.0.0 under Windows 8. I have had this

icon to be in the number one position which I have become accustomed to
on all computers I have worked with using Window-eyes since 3.0. How do
I move the icon so that Window-eyes reads computer one of 16. Despite
remote sessions with Dell, they see all other icons match my desktop,
yet reps claim they have moved the computer icon to read one of
sixteen. Yet, I still hear computer 11 of 16. How do I make sure
Window-eyes reads computer 1 of 16.
