Hi Rick,
What you are stating is true; however, if you have the we8 cd, the
installation will give you the choice to run with speech.
If the installation does not run automatically, you need to run narrator.
Good luck,
Manny

Hi: OK, I have been reading and it sounds like after I push the power
button I hit the hot key to start Narrator.
From there I can use Narrator to do things like ensure access to the
internet and install a screen reader and go from there.
Does this sound like your experience?

Hello Rick,
There will be no special steps from a screen reader point of view,
means no special modifications are necessary to run Windows 8 with
WE 8. Just install it and go with it.
You should be even able to install WE without sighted help,
because your new machine most likely will come with a preinstalled
Windows 8 and Narrator will allow to finalize the installation of
Windows 8 and will bring you through the installation of
Window-Eyes 8. Narrator can be started with Windows-U.
It will take you some time to get familiar with the Windows 8 look
and the way you access programs, find things etc, but there are
podcasts out which explains the use of Windows 8. I also recommend
the KB of GW Micro with a article about Win8 and We8.

Ralf

Hi: It looks like I need a new computer.
W8 Pro will likely be the OS running a quad core i7.
Just how good or bad is WE with W8 from the Desktop?
I will be doing extreme computer programming in Visual Studio 2012
most likely and need heavy internet website access and development
as well.
My old XP machine is pretty good but so out of date many newer
programming tools will not run on it.
Before I pull the trigger on an expensive upgrade to a new machine
and all the related software I need to backup everything and,
after plugging in the new w8 machine, be able to at least get
online to ask questions about accessibility.
What are the minimum things I will need to do to use WindowEyes
and w8 to get back online?
I will create a step by step document to record so when I turn the
power on I can get online to ask questions on list.
If this makes sense to you who have already done this could you
give me any pointers or gotchyas you ran into getting setup after
clicking the power button?
I am guessing that setup of the router, accessibility settings for
the OS or WE and navigating the bloody W8 interface will be the
combination of things that will cause the most problems when the
lights come on for the first time.
I will also keep a diary of my setup steps and post it up for
others if it looks like one is necessary.
