Here's a little something I wrote on Facebook that may help some. Though they say they are going to fix it soon, some of the changes they have made have cause parts of the mobile site we all rely on to become inaccessible. Posting a status update is one of those things. You can get around this by routing the mouse to the text that says "What's on your mind?" and left clicking. This opens a fresh page that's not exactly intuitive but it is usable. Messages, friend requests, and notifications now use drop-down menus, and I have found that it takes two activations to get the menu to stay on the screen. You will find yourself redrawing the screen a lot while using the site as many actions for some reason do not cause the page to reload even though all the content changed. FB has employed landmarks, though I have not made much practical use of them.
The news feed is navigable by heading. When you get to the bottom of the page, FB has dynamically added to the bottom and there is more content. To get at that content, redraw the screen. (Note that's redraw not refresh.) You will most likely lose your place, though I have discovered an odd thing in that if you select and copy a unique piece of text from somewhere in the last entry on the page, which you will want to do anyway to find your place, Window-Eyes will usually retain position after the redraw. This only seems to work on the mobile site. If you use the desktop site, the same dynamic content addition occurs. I have found the time stamp on each item to be the easiest thing to search to get back to your place. Unfortunately that isn't available on the mobile version. Find the news feed items on the desktop site by navigating to heading level 5. At least until they fix the mobile site, there's less reason to prefer it over the desktop except that it's still less cluttered. Hopefully with Facebook now having an accessibility team these troubles will be addressed more uniformly in the future and we can all enjoy the site as others do. Until then I hope this helps a little. Please note: This email address is not closely monitored.
