I have tried to install Open Office on three different Windows 7 64 bit machine several times using both WE 8 and 8.1 with the last being according to specific instructions from Doug at GW and can not get it to work. Either the menus will read and the test you type can't be reviewed or the menus won't talk and the text will. It would be so nice if it did for WE users who can't afford to purchase Microsoft Office.

I downloaded this version of Open Office, using WE 8.1. I tried writer,
the word processor program, and all menus were readable with WE, however
text in the document were not readable with the normal keystrokes, I
could pass the mouse over the text and WE would read it. For me this
would not be usable with WE.

As I have no idea if Window-Eyes supports IAccessible2 or not, this
may be good or bad.
With the latest OO snapshots, you will be able to use Open Office,
without needing the use of Java. Note however, make sure, that IBM
Lodus program, is not installed, and that you run this program as
admin, otherwise iAccessible2 will not work.
Alright, with that out of the way, here's the link:
http://ci.apache.org/projects/openoffice/#w7ia2
If it doesn't land on the right heading, the heading you're looking
for is: "Windows ia2 Branch Install Packages"
Make sure ya choose the 3rd link, which will say something like:
Apache_OpenOffice_4.0.0_Win_x86_install_en-US.exe_1448553.exe

As for that other office suite, Libre I believe had the last
accessible version of 3.6.2. Although that's on the GNU/Linux side of
things.

Good luck!

did you get a response on this one? I am a bit confused as to WE's
compatability with java in general, and the office products in
particular. When I tried both products I didn't get very far. sorry
that's not much help.

Hello,

I remember reading that one of these two programs is more accessible
with Window-Eyes. Can someone please point me in the right
direction. Thank you.
