Yet, have you ever given the Extended Dictionary a chance? You can download it from App Central, and if you don't find it to solve your problem, you can always just delete it, and will be back to your old functionality. With the Extended Dictionary, you can make the greek letters speak, or replace them with different small sound clips, or any other replacement or indication you might want. If you decide to try the app, and you install it and find you don't understand how to accomplish your task, contact me off-list, and we will work out something. But be sure to read the User's Guide for the app, since it does give thorough instructions as to how to do functional entries. And, if you still don't find it works for you, I would be glad to know, how it could be improved to help you out. Why I said it is an overkill, is because it gives you numerous extra features, which you did not ask for. But that is the nature of a complex piece of software, ain't it? :) Well, this just being a friendly suggestion to help you out. Basically, I do agree with you, things should, and could have been handled directly in the screen reader. But as Doug pointed out, it is not being handled there, just like many other dictionary issues that users have called for. And that is why, the Extended Dictionary app was initiated and developed. You need to distinguish between upper and lower case Greek letters when you do any kind of advanced mathematics, for upper and lower Greek letters mean very different things.
