Please note that using Kurzweil still requires that your computer have a
program which does the PDF decoding. If you have no PDF reader,
Kurzweil will not recognize the document.

The Kurzweil software, in my view, is one of the better programs for
handling PDFs, since it treats the document as a sequence of scanned
images and therefore not only the text but also the layout format is
captured by the OCR engine. Moreover, you have the other luxury
features of Kurzweil which make the experience of handling documents a
pleasant one.
I do however appreciate that the price can be prohibitive to most
blind people; although that shouldn't preclude you from downloading
the 30-day demo from one of the vender sites (e.g.
