I did neglect to indicate my new Dell is an Inspiron 660s, Pentium G645 2.9GHZ dual, 8GB RAM, Windows 8. In addition to the above, Window-eyes treats the Programs and Features listbox the same. Already tried closing and restarting Window-eyes and using Windows-D to drop to the Desktop. Neither works.

I'm noticing when I close Window-eyes and re-start using the
CTRL-Alt-W, desktop icons are no longer spoken.   Instead, Window-eyes
only says "no selected item."
