Hello, Grant.
You may want to give Jarte from Carolina Road Software a try. It uses
the WordPad engine as its platform, but its capabilities go far beyond
WordPad. Although it cannot save in the ".docx" format, it can read
files in that format and can save to a ".doc" or "rtf" file. Jarte's
developer is committed to accessibility and has implemented a Screen
Reader Mode for use with programs such as Window-Eyes. He answers email
promptly and is extremely helpful. There is a free version of Jarte and
a shareware version. For documentation and the software itself, go to

I am needing to upgrade my word processor capability. I have been
using Word Pad with XP Pro SP3 and Window-Eyes 8.1. I need a word
processor that will read and edit files ending with the .docx (d o c

What is the latest version of MS-Word that works with XP PRO and will
read and edit .docx files? Other suggestions would also be welcome.
Thank you!
