Actually, it just occured to me, a possible reason for your ever-sounding mouse.

Could it possibly be, that it is performing all that dinging, as kind of a warning signal? Away to make all the cats in the neighborhood aware that it is around? Or, even telling them, that it is in such an untouchable spot, that not even a computer and its owner, can make it move.

Well, in such a case, maybe you should pay the web a visit, and search for something like:
   http://www..AllMouseLikeCheese.org
and see if you can get hold of a piece of computer cheese. Might just fool it out of its hole.

Smile.

Thanks David and Tom for your suggestions and will look further into them.

I have had a problem for a while where pressing the insert plus would not route the mouse pointer to the highlighted filename in a folder. Stephen Clower suggested changing the W7 theme to Windows Classic.I have just changed the theme a few minutes ago and the mouse pointer now seems to be working like a charm. Am now wondering if this will fix, or at least, help the problem of the dinging mouse. Time will tell.
Cheers
Neville.

And to add to David's tip sheet I've noticed that there are times when
"normal" mouse navigation won't work correctly, but for some reason
moving by clip will work. So I usually move to the best starting point
first, e.g. top left, bottom right, or route mouse to focus, and then
use NumPad Insert-7, 8, and 9, for previous, current, and next clip
respectively.
And redrawing the screen with Numpad Insert+Backslash is always worth a
try as well.

I do agree, the mouse feature of Window-Eyes, seems to be quite peculiar
sometimes. More than what you find in some other screen readers. And, I
am not sure, if any of the below suggestions would make a difference in
your particular case. They still might be of interest, to give a go,
just in case. Smile.

First of all, it quite often happens that another software pops up a
message of some kind on the screen. This message, might or might not be
readable by Window-Eyes. I, for one example, do have a certain screen
popping up every now and then, on my XP machine, that WE only reads as
O, and nothing else whatsoever. But this window pops up in the
background, and long as it stays open, the mouse will ding at me in
numerous other applications, and tabbing through screens that I well
know, will produce different results from what would be expected. The
only way to solve the problem, without restart, is to alt-tab through
the list of open windows, till you get to this mysterious pop-up window,
and hit Alt-F4. Once the window is closed, my mouse and other features,
go back to normal activity. Since WE don't read other than the O from
that window, I have no clue what it is. All security and malware scans,
report the system to be clean, so my guess is, that this could be a kind
of updating reminder from some software on my machine. I do know, that
the Flash Updating window, is another window that tends to pop up in the
background, and won't let you play around with your mouse, even in other
software. So, my suggestion here, would be for you to alt-tab through
the list of open windows, and see if you have similar stuff going on.

Secondly, did you try checking the Ctrl-Shift-B, making sure your
mouse-boundaries are set to "Full Screen". Any other boundaries, might
cause trouble in your mouse review. They could have got messed up by
accident, why they all the sudden stopped working for you. Give it a
check, if for no other reason, just to have done so. Smile.

Lastly, could it be, that some kind of an app - or even combination of
simultaneously running software on your computer, could cause any
conflicts. Try to run the software in question, with no other software
open on your computer, or even with apps turned off in WE. Does the
mouse behave differently now?

Hi Rod, Thanks for your reply.

I know what you are saying but it seems to be happening a lot more
than it used to. It has not happened in Casper before because I like
to check on the copying speed but yesterday this could not be done.

Also, if this was the case then unloading and reloading WE should have
no benifit but it sometimes does.

Hi Neville,

I'm guessing that there is no text for the mouse pointer to find to
read,
so that the mouse pointer reaches the bottom of the window quickly,
and then goes ding because it reached the window edge.
That's what usually happends when a mouse boundary is reached.

Using W7 HP 32 and latest WE

I also have a problem examining the screen using the mouse keys
because, a line or so down from the top,the mouse just dings. This is
not just when using IE 10 but can happen in any programme. e.g.
Yesterday, when backing up the hdd with Casper, I was unable to get
any info from the screen using the mouse keys because of the dinging.

Some progress info could be gained by pressing the tab key or turning
on the "speak all" command with insert a. Pressing numpad 5 a few
times had no affect at all.

This problem has been around for the past couple of versions of WE and
seems to be becoming more frequent. Sometines, unloading WE and then
reloading seems to work but not always.

Neville.
