I thought I was done with this but...
Exactly. Those who have been long time users of WE know it inside and
out. So why are they still on this list? Well, perhaps to assist the
ones who are new to WE or are still learning it?
So in that light, how can the emails going to the list be a distraction?
Given that, then, it is a DISadvantage of the list as it stands because
many replies that could otherwise help users are unseen.
And I am reminded that the archives are next to useless for one can
only search by subject and how many times have we seen ambiguos subjects
that offer no clue as to content?

Vaughan,
It's only a "distraction" if you already know the answer to the question
being asked; otherwise, it's a help. I suggest your view on this depends a
lot on how long you've been a Window-Eyes user.

Well personally: I like things just as they are. The summary of the
situation from GW as pointed out to you is correct as far as I recall, but
the main advantage of the current situation is that it helps stop list
volume growing so great that the list is a distraction rather than a help,
and with a few exceptions, off topic discussions, sent to the list, quickly
get redirected to the original sender.
I have been a list member for at least 15 years, and it has always been
operated well by GW Micro.

Hi everyone,
Allow me to clarify something on this very controversial topic.
Having the same inspiration as many seem to have, I actually wrote to
[email protected] suggesting that, perhaps, by default, replies to
messages should be "global," that is, be posted to all list subscribers.
I was responded to immediately, and was informed that, over the past 20
years, the format had alternated between replies being individual or global,
and that, each time the format was changed, it was the result of
consultation with the community of subscribers, as well as the opinion of
the GW Micro staff.
May I make a suggestion to everyone? Rather than guess at what is going on
behind our backs, why not simply write directly to [email protected] and
give your personal views to them. I know that the staff reads every e-mail
submitted to their support department.
Further, to assume that the GW Micro staff behaves like other monolithic
organizations, as I sense from the tone of certain recent posts, is simply
unfair and untrue.
Fraternally,
Rod
