Hi
I would respond to this by saying that you are not at all obligated to
use GW connect. The regular skype program, while not as accessible or
intuitive, does work, and if these occasional checks annoy you, you
always have the choice to use the regular skype program.
The GW guys aren't people who do things just because it happens to
sound like a good idea at the time. They have their own reasons for
doing things, and don't usually need to justify themselves. Yes, over
the weekend it was a bit annoying to have to wait a while for gw connect
to launch, but you know what? It wasn't the end of the world and it's
back up and working now, so lets move on with life and enjoy gw's
screenreader, and related apps like gw connect.

Over and over again, we see the messages coming up, every now and

the app tries to confirm the validity of his Window-Eyes installation.
Really GW, why all this continious validation. OK, I do see, if I do
not own a Window-eyes license, I do not own a right to use the GWC
add-free either. But look. If I open GWC at 10AM, and the GWC confirms
my WE license - what would ever tell this license to have somehow
expired 30 minutes later? And if nothing would denote such expiration,
then why does GWC have to keep confirming my license this often? It
should have been the least of a programatic matter, to set a flag,
once the GWC has confirmed my licens, telling it to run add-free, no
the rest of the day. That would cause less stress on the GW server,
and it would at least, ensure that those of the users who rightly are
told they will have an add-free version, really get it. Not depending
on whether the GW server will be up running at any point, or if my
wireless connection would happen to have five seconds of trouble.
Besides, spinning on this. If I install my GWC today, being a fully
licensed WE user, why would you ever need further validation. Let the
GWC installation perform its validation, and save the result deeply
hidden in the Registry. GW, you know how to copyright your screen
reader, but it seems you did not know, how to copyright your GWC app.
Sorry, but this never made any sense to me. And, it seems it does not
make sense to most users either. Even the LTO's of the screen reader,
could be confirmed, and GWC would be "Registered" to run add-free for
the paid-for time. No need to expect, that the license will expire
every 30 minute all around the clock.
If you want us to use an otherwise well-done app, please let us get
what you promise us. You promised us an add-free version, long as we
are legally licensed users of the WE screen reader. Then I really
expect us to be add-free, no matter if I happen to be able to connect
to your server at any time of the day. Why don't you make a load of
adds, comin up all the time, inside WE itself - just because I am not
on the net at the moment, or because your server has gone for lunch.
You well managed to have the screen reader licensed once for all, then
why not your GWC app?
