Sound Forge 9 was somewhat buggy. They had changed to a new development
environment with it and I used to see odd things like the status bar or
the tool bar not appearing.
Version 10 seems to be pretty much a big bug fix. And of course they
tossed in some new features and plug-ins that used to be optional
purchases in order to call it a new version. So your friend might want
to check on the price for an upgrade. They've been having some specials
recently.
Otherwise, the only thing I can think of is finding the executable in
the program files (X86) folder, opening the context menu, properties,
and playing around with the options under the compatibility tab.
