Barbara,
Your first issue does sound like a sound card problem. If you restart
the computer and hold down the left Shift key, you should hear speech
using the backup Window-Eyes synthesizer through your default card. Once
that is done, I would recommend verifying that your other card is
functioning properly.
Your second issue may relate to either out-of-date Window-Eyes apps or
an antivirus program. First, ensure your apps are up-to-date by going to
Apps/App Management/Add or Remove Apps in the Window-Eyes control panel,
and if the problem continues, let us know what antivirus program is running.
Regards,
Steve

Hello All,
I am having a problem with Window-Eyes 8.2. I have Windows 7, 64 bit
on my desktop. I am using my laptop right now because of the speech
issues. I have kept Windows itself updated.
A couple of weeks or so ago, my speech stopped. My computer otherwise
seemed to be working fine. With sighted help, I attempted to
uninstall WE. I could not and had to use the emergency uninstall.
When I reinstalled WE, it still did not work. I did also check my
physical speaker and it is working.
I have 2 sound cards. One is used exclusively by WE and the other
sound card has all other computer sounds. That sound card is working
fine; not the wE one.
I took my computer to my computer man. He repeated all my steps and
had no different results. He then went into the registry and deleted
all WE items. After reinstalling WE, my computer and WE worked.
Today, my speechch stopped again. It appears to be the same issues.
I do not have sighted assistance at the moment to verify things, but I
can hear Windows boot up.
I have been thinking back on this. The first time, my speech went out
I had just closed Open Book software. Today I was using Goldwave. It
may have something to do with using 2 sound cards or a related software.
Could my sound card drivers be corrupted? Any other ideas?
I am also having an unrelated problem with my laptop. It is also
Windows 7, 64 bit with WE 8.2 I have only 1 sound card for my
laptop. I am using Office 2007. When I use the spell check, things
become very sluggish. Today in fact, speech stopped and I had to
reboot. I have also noticed this using the spell check in Outlook.
Any ideas here?
Thanks in advance for any ideas.
Barbara
