I recently was in a conversation with a WE 7.5 user, and it was his impression that WE 8 was only of use to those running Windows 8. I later learned that many people may hold this erroneous view, so I thought I'd post here a version of how I answered his question on what a Windows 7 user might have to gain from WE 8; I may have made some mistakes in my answer, and would appreciate others chiming in, but I did want to help promote the idea that WE 8 has an enormous amount of value for those running Win7 (like myself): "Well, first of all, WE is *much* faster and more stable, because a long list of bugs have been corrected. It now supports java access bridge for much better support of java apps .. * Internet access has been reworked to support many newer control types; and forms mode now offers automatic toggling on/off so you don't have to go in and out of forms mode. .. * You can now use WE in safe mode, and it will now automatically unmute the audio, and set the volume to 50%, when it's started, to help you get around situations where the audio was accidentally disabled. .. * It now has much better support of all the Office 2010 and 2013 (and 2007) programs. (I'm using Office 2010.) .. * The remote assistance has been greatly enhanced for when an xp pc isn't involved. .. You can now buy high-quality voices from GW which interface directly (not SAPI). .. It now has a "mobile" mode where you don't have to install the video driver. Also, the "guess what?" series and the "what's new in Window-Eyes 8" webinars at http://www.gwmicro.com/podcast provide in-depth demonstrations on all the new features. I'm not sure I can remember all the enhancements, but the improved internet is the best day-to-day benefit for most people."
