Hi Bob,

This topic came up on the list last week. I will paste below an excerpt of
my response which should help you turn off automatic numbering in Word 2010:

This functionality relates to the AutoCorrect options which are buried in
the Options window and depending on which office application you are using
the AutoCorrect settings are under different categories. Here is a quick
run-down of how you can disable automatic numbering and bulleting in Word.

1. Alt-F, T to open the Options window

2. In Word, down arrow to Proofing.

3. Press Tab to focus the AutoCorrect options button and press Spacebar
to open the associated dialog

4. Press Control-Tab until you reach the AutoCorrect as your Type
tab/page

5. Use Tab to find the Automatic bulleted lists checkbox and uncheck it
with Spacebar

6. Tab to the Automatic numbered lists checkbox and uncheck it with
Spacebar

7. Tab to OK and press Spacebar to activate and close the dialog

8. Tab or Shift-Tab to OK to close the Options Window
