1. Become familiar with the document you are excerpting from, so that you will
be able to hear where the boundaries are for the text you are wanting to clip.
Note for example, is there a change to a different subject at the end of the
piece being clipped, so you'll hear it when you get there? Is there a phrase
that stands out?

2. Find the line containing the first word of the piece to be clipped.

3. Press the Home key to move the cursor to the first character of that line.

4. Hold down the shift key and press the Pagedown key and listen. Text will
stop speaking when you reach the end of that screenful. If you are sure the clip
will be much more than that, press the Pagedown key more than once, perhaps 35
or 40 times, depending upon the length of the clip. Throughout all this, do not
let go of the shift key.

5. Still holding down the shift key, press the down-arrow key until you reach
the end of the desired text. Don't worry about too much text; you can always
trim later. The point is to include all the text you need.

6. Now let go of all keys and without pressing any other keys, execute a ctrl-c
to copy your selected text to the clipboard. Navigate to a different window, for
example, open a new document in some kind of text editor, and do a ctrl-v to
dump the contents of the clipboard there, so you can do any needed trimming of
the excerpted text, then save it, or dump it into another article, whatever.

I know it sounds terribly complex, but once you've done it more than once,
you'll never give the task a second thought again.
