That is correct.  The paid version has real time protection and will run
along with your antivirus program with no problem.  The free version doesn't
have real time protection but I use it as a secondary program to catch what
my antivirus program may not catch.

Some of the confusion here possibly is that MalWareBytes has a free version
and a paid version.  When I last checked, the paid version does have some
realtime protection but the free version does not.  The article seems to be
referring to the free version.

I have also heard it said that one should not run two separate virus
protection programs at once.  However, there is still somewhat of a division
between virus protection and malware protection.  There is some overlap
between the two.  Still, I know of people who do run both, and the results
are going to depend very much on the two programs being run.  I have tended
toward relying on frequent scans to deal with malware and only running a
virus protection program, but you will find that everyone tends to have
their own approach.
