I would suggest lowering your expectations regarding Windows Narrator.
It is OK to get over the hump or to perform some general Windows
administration tasks. I was successful in using Windows Narrator once
when I took a Windows NT administration course. In that class we only
used the administration tools that come with Windows and Narrator was
enough for me to keep up with the class. I think that was when
Window-Eyes worked with Windows 95, 98, ME and 2000. It didn't work on
NT.

Subject: Window Eyes and Windows Narrator

Hi all,

My husband told me that he just purchased several of a new type of
tablet for the salesmen where he works. He said that it is a Windows 8
based project and you can get a keyboard for it that, sort of clamps on
the top, I guess, he is going to bring one home tonight for me to see.
Anyway, he said that it has a speech synthesizer built in like the Apple
products, called Windows Narrator. It sounds interesting, but I
immediately wondered how Window Eyes differed from the free narrator. I
am sure that Window Eyes is more blind friendly, simply because, well,
you get what you pay for. Can Window Eyes be put onto these machines?
They do sound like they have some good features. Such as, you can use
those little microchip cards like those used in cameras and the Victor
Reader Stream, up to 54 gig, interchangeably in the machine. It also has
a USb port. He was able to get them for $350, probably using a discount
of some type. So, any input would be welcome.
