My BrailleQuiz app has been updated to include several categories for Unified English Braille. I hope this will give Braille users a heads-up about UEB which we will start to see within the next 2 years. The help file follows:
Press Control-Alt-Shift-B to test your Braille skills. The BrailleQuiz app can also be run from the app menu. When the dialog comes up, you can choose the type of braille signs, and the number of items to be tested. Test yourself on the dot numbers of the alphabet, numbers, punctuation marks, and several types of Grade 2 Braille contractions. You can also test yourself on computer braille. Several categories of Unified English Braille (UEB) have been added. This will give you an idea of some of the changes coming with UEB. Enter all for the number of items if you want all the items in that category. You can choose to have the name of each braille sign spoken, or spoken and spelled. When entering data, you can enter letters, and numbers for any Grade 2 signs or UEB signs that are needed. You can also enter numbers when being tested on the braille alphabet, numbers, and punctuation marks. All numbers must be in order. For example, to enter the contraction for although, which is a l th sign, you would need to enter the letter a, the letter l, and the numbers of the dots for th which is 1456. The numbers must always be entered in order from 1 to 6. Enter rr to repeat the entry or qq to quit. There is also a separate button to let you view the simplified rules for using the grade 2 signs and contractions. There is another button to view the Unified English Braille rules. You can use the arrows to scroll through these rules. Here are some shortcut keys for the main dialog: Start quiz--Enter List of categories--L Rules for Grade 2 Braille--R Rules for UEB--u Close--Escape Help--H. ]]> Jeff Weiss, M.Ed.
