Hi Doug.

You do have it dclose to udnerstanding what I wish to do. I don't have
access to my Brille Edge until Monday, so plan to try your suggestions.

The problem seems to me to be the concept of "sticky shift" as the
assignment for the Edge's shift function button. I like "sticky shift" for
direct text entry. I certainly had not got as far as you are suggesting.

Will keep in touch.

Vaughan.

Vaughan,

I'm not exactly sure what you are expecting or wanting to do as far as
keypresses but I have a thought.

If you define a braille key to send say a shift right arrow and continually
hit that it will select a character at a time just as hitting shift-right
arrow would do from the keyboard. You could also define a key to send
control-shift-right arrow. When you press this braille keystroke it will
select a word at a time. You would just define all the selection keys you
plan on using. Does this do what you are wanting?

Subject: Using Briale Display to Select Text

        Hi all.

I find that direct text entry with my Braille Edge is easier than
the conventional qwerty keyboard, in part because I make fewer typographical
errors, and the display is positioned more conveniently.

I have been trying to generate a set of Braille hot keys which will
enable text to be selected in the same way that conventional shift-arrow
keys work.

I am not having much success. My shift key is assigned as "sticky
shift" and pressing/releasing this and then quickly pressing the arrow keys
does not wor. There is a hot key which allows for clearing a sticky key,
which might allow my preferred method to work, or for the shift key to be
pressed and held for the purposes of selecting text prior to cutting or
copying.

Does anyone have suggestions please? It seems to me that a double
press of the assigned sticky key could be used to unstick, but maybe I have
it all wrong!

        Vaughan.
