I need to make a slight correction to my previous message comparing QRead
with Adobe Digital Editions. It looks like Adobe Digital Editions only
supports a couple of file types for reading, PDF and ePub. I guess this
would make it even better to also have QRead on your computer, despite the
$25 price tag.

John,
I suppose that which program is best depends on what types of files you
are trying to read. I've used Adobe Digital Editions, but I haven't tried
QRead yet. They do have a trial version that you can download from
http://q-continuum.net/
QRead was designed to be accessible and easy for the blind to use for
reading several types of files including text, Word, PDF and unprotected
ePub. Adobe finally made Adobe Digital Editions accessible to screen
readers after several long years of us waiting impatiently for it to
happen, and it also supports several file types. The major difference is
that if you obtain an Adobe ID from the Adobe web site, Adobe Digital
Editions can also read DRM-protected files, the types you might purchase
from book publishers.
I would suggest that you have both QRead and Adobe Digital Editions on
your computer if you do a lot of reading, especially for school.
